Margaret Thatcher on Leadership

Margaret_thatcher_2007Remembering Margaret Thatcher  (13 October 1925 – 8 April 2013)

Margaret Thatcher served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979-1990. She was the only woman to have ever held the position of leadership, and was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th century.

Here are a few of her famous quotes:

on living well:  “Watch your thoughts for they become words.
Watch your words for they become actions.
Watch your actions for they become habits.
Watch your habits for they become your character.
And watch your character for it becomes your destiny.
What we think, we become.
My father always said that… and I think I am fine.”

on loving deeply: “Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope.”Paraphrased quote of St. Francis of Assisi, after Thatcher won election in 1979

on leading courageously: “Defeat-I do not recognize the meaning of the word!” Speech, 1982

on learning continuously:  It’s passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election.

on leaving a legacy: “It used to be about trying to do something. Now it’s about trying to be someone.”
